The Empire and the Kingdom

The Empire and the Kingdom

Set in the shadow of the Roman Empire, The Empire and the Kingdom follows the aging Apostle Peter as he visits persecuted believers hiding in Rome’s underground burial caves. Living in fear and meeting in secret, these Christians cling to their faith under constant threat. When they are arrested and imprisoned, Peter seeks to strengthen them by recounting heroic stories of God’s mighty acts and the triumphs of faith from Scripture.

Yet Peter soon realizes that his words do not reach their fearful hearts. These believers are not bold heroes; they are weary, broken, and painfully aware of their own weakness. Confronted with their despair, Peter acknowledges a deeper revelation: God’s power is made perfect in weakness.

From this place of humility, Peter shares his own story, first veiled and later revealed—the fear that once overwhelmed him, his denial of Jesus, and the mercy that restored him. As his honesty breaks through their doubts, the prisoners are strengthened not by bravado, but by grace. Choosing trust over self-reliance, they embody a kingdom not built by force, but by faith. Against the might of the Roman Empire, the quiet victory of the Kingdom of God is revealed.
